Christmas is coming

fat hamsterCan you believe that it’s nearly Christmas? Are you just realising that you haven’t started your Christmas shopping yet or that the Turkey (or hamster) will never be fat enough in time for Christmas day?

While we have to participate in Christmas in the real world and all that that involves, we should never loose the sense of wonder as we remember the moment that God became a human being.

Gfoetusod who is eternal, all powerful, all knowing and who can be everywhere at once limits himself as he becomes a foetus. He becomes completely dependent on his mother as he traps himself inside a frail human body. It is incredible to think that the God who created the universe chose to become the same as one of his creations. The two Bible passages that most clearly describe this ‘Incarnation’ (God becoming flesh) can be found in John 1.1-18 & Philippians 2.1-11. Why not read these verses and consider what it cost God to become a human (Jesus Christ). Here are a few thoughts that occur to me:

  • The God who is indestructible chose to live in a frail human body.
  • The God who is everywhere chose to confine himself in a body that can only be at one place.
  • The God who is all knowing chose to limit his knowledge.
  • The God who is all powerful had to rely on power of spirit to do miracles.
  • Heaven is a perfect and holy place that God chose to leave behind to come into this world which is full of pain and suffering.

God did this to show us what he is like and to open up the way for us to know him. WOW!
